Taking the marathon one step at a time
I wanted to run the Mumbai Marathon with everybody else this year. Although, I would have had to either walk or limp.
Some of the excesses of shooting and working out seem to have gotten to my knee, and it hasn’t been in the best of shape for a while. So I’m recuperating the best I can.
Well, slipping away unnoticed is never an option with the Mumbai Marathon. It’s the equivalent of a carnival if ever there was one in this city. I am overwhelmed by the response, and the number of runners keeps growing. Of course, the number of people lining the streets is just as awesome.
Last year, I didn’t have a running partner. So I landed up with a friend, a model, and tried to get into the race. We drove around for a bit and tried to get past some barricades. Don’t let anybody tell you that two nice looking women can get in anywhere, because we certainly couldn’t get into the Mumbai Marathon.
This year was different. John was the face of the Marathon, and I was sure I could get to run this time, but the knee wouldn’t hold up.
Wasn’t difficult to get into the flow of things, though, and I played cheerleader to the hilt. I flagged off the Senior citizens run and the Dream Run. The spirit of the moment was electric, and it’s a great way to bring the city together. |
